When neuro toxi snakes were discussed as to treatment
there was additional discussion as to whether it was necessary to carry the larger BVM seeming to say a pocket mask was as good. Each has its place though they can be interchanged in some ways.

CPR Shield: the good= small easy to carry most any where -pocket, belt pouch or even key ring.        ......................Inexpensive$5-25Gives 16% O2-- Great for CPR or rescue breathing because you have ......................some protection
the bad= when the patient vomits you may get some on you
the really bad= the patient will be receiving extra CO2 [6%]which will stop the heart     ......................over the short run

Pocket Respiration Mask: the good= medium size carryable -pocket or on belt pouch. ......................Inexpensive$15-25, Gives 16% O2
the bad= when the patient vomits you may get some on you
the really bad= the patient will be receiving extra CO2 [6%]which will stop the heart     ......................over the short run

BVM: the good= larger but carryable in larger kit or pack, pocket, belt or pouch .  ........................Gives 21% O2 when the patient vomits you dont get any. cost $25 to $100
                      the bad= really none
the really good= the patient will be receiving extra O2 but no CO2 [6%] AND you can ......................keep them breathing for days - you dont need electricity or O2 -Grat for long term CO ......................poisoning and neuro toxin snake paralysis

If you look up work by
Robert L. Norris MD Professor of Surgery (Emergency Medicine) at the Stanford University Medical Center who worked on snake bite mortality and morbidity reduction for the country of India you will find he felt BVMs were a huge part that were "missing" in the treatment of paralyzing venom  deaths
